GMT-1: Açores pt. 4

Pa saj ne, da sva nehote vletili še na azorsko poroko. Jao, ti Azorci. Itak da je poroka tvoje sestre skoraj dogodek leta na otoku, pa še to se dečko spozabi in se spomni šele, ko se pokličemo kdaj točno pride najin trajekt. Pač pustimo to, da sva na koncu ta drug dan itak pristale na zabavnem delu poroke in niso pomagali niti izgovori, da neveste ne poznava in nimava nič primernega za oblečt.

Še bolj zabavno je bilo en večer prej, ko naj bi svatje uradno skovali načrt, kako bojo ugrabili nevesto ali kako ju bojo poiskali, kje prenočujeta in celo noč krulili pod oknom. Vse to poteka na neformalni predporočni večerji, ki pa se je udeležijo samo svatje. Hrana tipična azorska, več kot odlična. Posebej tiste latvice (pt. lapas), ko je treba najprej pojest kako surovo (ki je še miga) da zadostiš provokaciji domačinov ter v trenutku ko jo prežvekuješ te še nekdo vpraša, če se ti je slučajno zalepila na nebo.. Nato pa jih v drugi rundi dobiš v super dobri whisky omaki (tokrat kuhane).

Na Piucotu je so na festivalu sledili, zrezek tune, pečene rakovice z žara, še par kontinentalnih portugalskih specialitet aka. moelas, tripas, caracois in te fore (želodčki, vampi, polži), škampi taki in drugačni, ribje čorbe, zajec in govedina. Tako da ni da ni!

In seveda sir! V tovarni, kamor sva ga šli iskat, so na novo razrezali gromozanski hleb sira, samo da so ga dali za poskusit in sva potem kupili vsaka en kos. Pa tisti Topo sicer ni ne vem kaj, je rahlo pikantni iz Velasa veliko boljši. Čeprav sem od vseh sirov pričakovala precej več. Pač Portugalci glede sira niso Francozi!

Vino je naslednja izmed kulinarično-kulturnih stvari na Azorih. Najboljše je menda na Picotu - pa res je dobro! Edinstveni vinogradi pod vulkanom spadajo pod kulturno dediščino Unesca .. in tudi vino si to zasluži, že samo zaradi tega, ker je uspelo tam zrast :P

In edina kava, ki raste v Evropi, raste na Azorih.

And it happened that we crashed to the Azorean wedding. Jah, those Azoreans! Your sister's wedding is surely the event of the year for whole island (and some surrounding also) and our friend just remembered of it, when we called him from the ferry. There were no excuses for the next day - not that we actually don't know the bride and we don't have anything appropriate to dress - so we also attended the after part of the wedding. It was fun, anyway. :-)

It was even more fun a night before, when there was the informal pre-wedding dinner that only the wedding guests can join. Typical Azorean food, more than delicious, especially "lapas" (limpets), raw and cooked in a sauce made of whisky. Tuna steak, crabs, typical continental Portuguese dishes as moelas, tripas and caracois (gizzards, tripes and snails), shrimps, fish soup, rabbit and beef. And when you crash into a local festival it is just :-)

Cheese, of course! We went to the factory to buy some and they sliced a huge wheel of cheese just that we could have a try. Anyway, the Topo cheese is nothing special, but another from Velas - the spicy one is much better. Actually, I expected a bit more from the cheese, but this is Portugal, not France.
Wine is one of the most well-known part cousine and culture at Azores. The best wine should be on Pico. That is not a surprise - all those wineyards spreading under Pico volcano are under Unesco heritage. I would say the same for the wine, just because it is successfully growing there! 

And the only coffe that grows in Europe, is on Azores.
